Joseph Eagleeye is a principal of the commodity research firm Premia Research, LLC , its trading affiliate Premia Capital Management, and an advisor for Omnium, a quantitative consulting firm within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry. He has over 20 years of experience in trading, hedging and risk management across commodities, fixed income and foreign exchange. He is also the Associate Editor of the Global Commodities Applied Research Digest at the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities.
Mr. Eagleeye’s consulting work has recently centered around the CPG industry. He has advised CPG firms on all manifestations of inflation. This has included food inflation, physical hedging strategies, fuel hedging, non-explicit hedging (i.e., exposures without a direct futures counterpart) and interest rate risk management. He has also advised on demand and supply forecasting, inventory management, and cost containment strategies.
Previously, Mr. Eagleeye was Chief Financial Officer of Organic Valley, one of the world’s largest organic consumer brands with approximately $1.3 billion in annual sales. While at Organic Valley, he also managed the firm’s conventional dairy, fuel and interest rate risk, in addition to creating the data science group. His main contribution was introducing the firm to commodity-centric frameworks that fundamentally altered the perception of profitability and client value.
On the institutional side, Mr. Eagleeye’s has consulted for clients such as Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch Investment Management on risk management.
He co-created the “Premia Research Bancor Index,” which is a smart commodity-oriented beta that is calculated and distributed by S&P Dow Jones Indices.
Previously, Mr. Eagleeye was a senior derivatives strategist at Putnam Investments. While at Putnam, he co-managed Putnam’s institutional commodity program. Prior to joining Putnam Investments, he developed programmed trading applications for Morgan Stanley’s Equity Division.
Mr. Eagleeye is the co-editor of the best-selling Risk Book (London), “Intelligent Commodity Investing.” He has also co-authored chapters for the following edited books: “Commodities: Markets, Performance, and Strategies” (Oxford University Press), “The New Generation of Risk Management in Hedge Funds and Private Equity Investments” (Euromoney), “Commodity Trading Advisors: Risk, Performance Analysis, and Selection” (Wiley), “Hedge Funds: Insights in Performance Measurement, Risk Analysis, and Portfolio Allocation” (Wiley), and “The Handbook of Inflation Hedging Investments” (McGraw Hill).
Mr. Eagleeye holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
